The Sherwood Park Freeway opened in 1968 as Highway 14, connecting Edmonton to the burgeoning Eastern suburb of Sherwood Park. The Highway 14 designation remained untill 1998 when it was transferred to the newly constructed section of Whitemud Drive. The Sherwood Park Freeway now bears the unsigned number 100.
