Whitemud Drive Freeway
Whitemud Drive is a freeway which runs east-west along the south side of Edmonton. The first section to be constucted was the Quesnell bridge over the North Saskatchewan River (1967). The remainder of the roadway was built in stages, and in 1993 the final interchanges were put into place at Calgary Trail creating a continuous 20 km long freeway. Two more interchanges will be built at 34th and 17th Streets on the east side to extend the freeway to both ends of the Highway 216 Ring Road. Plans are also in place to extend the freeway west to the city limits. All pictures taken EASTBOUND in July 2003:
